Light sensors of webcams
The rapid development of the market multimedia peripheral devices, improved technology of manufacturing light sensors led to the emergence of low-cost computer market for webcams, designed primarily for video-communication. Webcam, even recently considered exotic peripherals, is gradually becoming accustomed to attribute office or apartment.
The main element of any digital camera, its "heart", is light sensor. We use two types of sensors: CCD-matrix (with charge - coupled devices) and CMOS matrix (complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor). Photosensitive sensor provides for the conversion of light into electrical signals that are available for further electronic processing. The basic principle is simple sensors: under the influence of light in semiconductor in materials arises carrier’s charge, which later transformed into voltage. The difference between CCD and CMOS sensors is primarily a way of stockpiling and transfer of charge, as well as in the technology conversion to analog voltage. Without going into details the construction of various types of sensors, mention only that CMOS sensors significantly cheaper in the production, but also more "noisy". Therefore, in expensive, professional-quality digital cameras they use CCD matrix, but in the vast majority of Web-light cameras as a part of today they apply cheap CMOS sensors.
